The City never sleeps. Or rather, a city ought not to sleep.

Urban dwellers know the veins that run through this magnificent beast, cutting across its very heart and soul. It’s limbs reach out ever more, usurping space, lives and stories. There is a fondness of living in the city – that sense of anonymity and loneliness sometimes peaks amongst the convenience of everything being a 15min drive, bike ride, walk or a phone-call-for-food-delivery away.

Its centre glows, keeping vigilant. Vigilant of the little ants in its pants.

I like flea markets – the sights, the sounds, the bargains and the general banter you get yourself into with the sellers. “Oh, this was just lying around the house..”, “I never wore it!”, “that’s from our vacation last year in -insert exotic place-”.

Perhaps it’s just having everyone’s memories and tastes laid out before you that I find quite appealing and intimate.

Of course, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

There are certain things you can do yourself, but often you need others for the last push. Normally I try to avoid this, pushing myself.

However, when push comes to shove, I like it easy too. Just like taking a ride instead of walking.

Time and Tide..

..wait for no man. The weekend was spent getting my Open Water Diver’s license in Tioman, Malaysia. What a wicked experience! Turtles, colourful fish, clams, corals…

I love the water, although it may be one of the most unnatural feelings to stay in it for 30-40mins.

Here’s one when I was floating on it – along the Ganges.

Nestled.

So it finally feels like I’ve nestled back into the place I (somewhat/usually) consider home. Its ever-changing landscape baffles me, the quest for the best (food, service, drinks, etc.), its quick-paced lifestyle are all testaments of its constant state of upgrade that is the national mentality. This has kept me on my toes a bit, but I think I can finally sink down into a state of equilibrium.

You know, before I’m off on my next adventure!

Interesting how our choice of toys changes as we get older, worldlier and have (more) spending power. I reckon this shop would get any 5 year old excited, but for me, it merely makes for a colourful picture, reminiscent of childhood.

Until I spot a car with stuffed teddy bears and other odd shaped creatures, grinning at me at a traffic light. Right.

Cuppa

It’s been a crazy week since my return from India and things as usual, time in Singapore flies. The hands of the clock never stop; the sun always rises precisely at 6:53am. As much as I like and appreciate routine, a cuppa coffee, silently sipped amongst the pram-pushing yummy mummy’s in a hip cafe, sometimes does the trick in shaking it up a little.
